Description
Advanced Modular Computers has introduced a cellular modem designed to add SMS, GPRS and GPS (Global Positioning System) functionality to its range of rackmount computer systems.
Voice communication is also supported.
The unit utilises a standard SIMM card, which can be installed in seconds.
Easy Installation
The module is designed to mount on a standard PC expansion plate bracket - and does not require connection to the computer bus. This approach means that the aerial may be simply plugged into the rear of the chassis for ease of operation. In situations where this is not appropriate, the aerial can be remotely connected using co-axial cable.
Where it is not desirable to mount the modem module in a standard expansion slot, the expansion plate can be removed, and the unit mounted on pillars within the chassis. The module measures just 12.7 x 9.0 cm.
Simple Interface
Communication to the host computer is by standard COM port serial interface. The modem is controlled using an enhanced Hayes-style modem protocol. (AT commands).
Convenient Power Supply Option
For ease of connection within the rackmount chassis, the unit will can be powered by connecting to a standard 12V hard disk power connector or from a low-cost alarm battery, allowing the modem to be operated if the main chassis is down. This option is particularly attractive when allied with AMC system monitoring products providing out-of-band operation even if the power to the main chassis has failed.
More Options!
As well as providing GPS, GPRS and Voice communications, an option is available to include GPS functionality. Again, although not dependent on the AMC monitoring card for GPS operation, when used in conjunction with the AMC system monitoring products the unit is able to provide information as to its location even when the chassis is disconnected from the supply. The AMC monitoring products also enable e-mail operation.
